Ready To Start Your Fitness Journey? 3 Things You Must Do First

So you want to start your fitness journey or revitalize your routine? I'm so happy for you, this is a big decision! Before you go on this journey, there are three things you must do first to set yourself up for success...


Welcome to Brain Food Life, your go-to source for all things fitness, food and mindset. Ellen here, and let me just say there is nothing more exciting then making a decision to prioritize yourself, and do something completely out of your comfort zone, like starting a fitness journey.


This will be truly transformational for you both physically and mentally, and remember it's the small things that you do everyday that leads to huge results.


Now, let's move on to the 3 things that you MUST DO first before starting your fitness journey, which will help set you up for success in getting that rockin hot + healthy bod.



Place of Love


The first base we need to cover is to make sure you are acting out of a place of love. Most people who want to start working out or eating healthy do it because they want to look a certain way (lose belly fat, etc) but they act from a place of not loving their body... They exercise to get to the point and think "If I have six pack abs THEN I will love my body/be happy."


THIS IS NOT THE WAY YOU SHOULD APPROACH YOUR FITNESS ROUTINE.


Of course it is great to set a goal (hey, if you want a six pack all the power to you!!) but there is a critical mindset shift that you need to make here.


The goal is to love your body no matter what state it is in.

I mean C'MON it's YOUR BODY.


Doesn't matter if you have a six pack or not, do not start a fitness journey because you hate your body, working out is not going to fix that.


This is a more deep rooted thing within yourself.


When you act out of a place of love for your body it will make keeping up with your fitness routine 10x easier, I'm not kidding!


You will genuinely want to nourish your body with real healthy foods, because you love it and dont want to fuel it with junk.

You will genuinely want to get in some movement/exercise because you know you will feel so good afterwards and your body will love you for it.


Working out or maintaining your healthy lifestyle wont feel like such a chore, all because you are acting out of a place of love for yourself and your body, not hate.



Create a System


The second base you must do before starting a fitness journey is create a system for yourself.

This is so so so important!!


What I mean by creating a system is that you must have a plan for what workouts and/or food you are going to do/eat and when.


There is nothing worse than having a desire to do something but having no clue in the world how to do it and just end up feeling discouraged and procrastinate which then leads you to not doing it at all!


So for this I suggest going by it weekly, create a workout plan for the week based on your lifestyle and your schedule. For example, you can schedule to do a '45 minute lower body strength training' workout on Tuesday and then do a '45 Minute Upper Body Strength Training' session on Thursday.


Take out all the guesswork out of it, your future self will thank you for it.


When you have a system set in stone you are setting yourself up for success just because of the fact that you are making it easy for yourself, that is one less thing for you to have to think about!




Know Your Why


The third base we need to cover and the one I personally think is so crucial, is to really hone in and know your why.


This is not the cliche find your why, woo woo.


I'm serious. In all things in life we take action to do something because we want to gain something out of it in one way or another.

This applies to soo many other aspects in life, not just your fitness routine.


Of course you want to start a fitness journey because you want to look good (who doesn't want to look good??!) Everyone wants to look good, this doesn't mean that they are all going to change their lifestyle, exercise 5 days a week and eat healthy.


You need to go in deeper with your why. Go past the superficial wanting to look good thing, really DIVE DEEP.


When you successfully know your why, especially when it comes to your fitness journey all your excuses turn into BS.


Your WHY should be stronger than any obstacle or excuse you come up with it. Your why will help you push through your laziness and lack of motivation on most days...


No one is 100% motivated everyday to workout and eat healthy, but the one and only thing that keeps them going, is yup you guessed it, its their WHY.


Now you probably see why this is so critical, especially when first starting your fitness journey. You will be able to sustain your healthy lifestyle for the long term and keep up with it simply due to that one small thing, your why.




There you have it, these are the 3 things you MUST DO to set yourself up for success before starting your fitness journey.
