This 5 Minute Routine Changed My Life.

Hi Its Ellen again. Just wanted to share something that I thought would be of value to someone who needs it, and honestly changed my life. I'm more positive, more happy, and just overall more motivated.

Sooo lets start off with a little backstory, I used to be the person that would sleep in till noon around 12-12:30pm, ( I cant even imagine doing that now!!) The first thing that I would do when I would first open my eyes would be to glance out my window to do a quick weather check haha, then I would instantly hop on my phone (still lying in bed btw) look through my emails, and then scroll through Instagram mindlessly for another hour. This was the routine for me for as long as I could remember. I kept telling myself that it was justified because my body is tired and burnt out, but I never took a second to ask myself "why?"

Why is my body tired? Why do I feel burnt out? How can I fix this? Now that I look back on these days and reflect I realize I was in a constant harsh cycle, I was miserable and honestly doing it to myself. I would always wonder where did the day go, I felt so unproductive and so unaccomplished, I was my biggest tormentor. I would watch people on Instagram document their morning routines and wish I could implement that, but I never took the step to do it. I just thought of it as an unrealistic goal.

Finally one day it just clicked. Don't ask me how, I honestly have no idea what occurred for me to realize that this routine was not going to get me anywhere haha. I believe to this day that the universe has always everything set in divine timing and I was meant to go through that struggle to be where I am today, writing this blog post :)

Now you may be asking me, well. . . What did you do??! Before I get into it, I just want to mention that this backstory is completely relevant to demonstrate that I had no structure in my morning, or overall in my life in general. Until I finally took complete control.

Yup, I said it I took control. That is the FIRST step, to declare in your mind, and to yourself, that you want change. It could be a bad habit like mine, or simply just to add more structure into your day. Once I declared this to myself, and set in stone that I was going to change this bad habit, the next question was "Now what, how do I do this?" I did my research, read many articles, listened to podcasts, and they all basically kind of said the same thing, which was the cliche "Meditate, journal, exersizc early, read a book." Honestly knowing myself at that time, I knew I wasn't going to realistically do that routine everyday, it all seemed very extreme for someone who had no structure in their life at all. Those are all very great things to do once you have some sort of structure, but you cant expect to run if you don't know how to crawl. Its a process.

I wanted to do something that I knew in my heart I could easily do everyday, that was quick and effective. That's when I found the Five-Minute Journal. I heard so many great things about it, it was exactly what I was looking for. I was the person who purchased many blank journals throughout my lifetime, that remain empty to this day haha. The five minute journal, is not any type of journal, Its the first thing I write in and actually am excited to do when I wake up and the last thing I do before I go to sleep. Everyday there is a page to write 3 things that you are grateful for, 3 things that would make today amazing, and the Affirmation for the day that you write based on how you feel, or want to feel for the day. Thats it, literally it only takes 5 minutes to set the tone for the day, and overall plan it for success.

I never had so much structure in my life until this journal came into my life. It is honestly life changing.

I truly hope by reading this someone out there became inspired to take control of their life, and if you are looking for a sign this is it.
